Fee for participation

Participation in the contest is free of charge.

Eligibility

The contest is open to any professional or non-professional photographer with the exception of the Judges and TEDx and their affiliates. Photographs that have already been published elsewhere or are the property of a third party are not eligible unless TEDx will have the full rights to use the images as specified below.

The contestants can submit one picture per person. In case someone will submit more than one photograph, then only the first submission will be taken into account.

The photographs must have been taken in 2020/2021, showing a transformative story from the past year.

The entries may not be manipulated by computer software or electronic filters.

Only digital photographs are accepted in the following file formats: JPEG, GIF, TIFF or RIF.

The entries may be submitted in English as English is the sole operating language of the contest and the Jury.

All entries must be submitted with the official Entry Form

The photographers must be residents or citizens of Sweden.

Inclusion policy

TEDxStockholm strives to be a place that is free from discrimination and provides equal opportunities for all. We encourage everyone to participate in our activities, and if at any moment you feel that something is not ok, you can contact any of our organizers.

TEDxStockholm does not accept any entries with violent content that may disturb a wide range of audiences and which are hurtful against religion, ethnicity, sexuality, gender or disability

Judging process

The entries will be judged by professionals in the fields of photography and journalism. Photographs will be judged on relevance to the contest theme, power of the message, creativity, technical quality, and suitability for presentation to an audience.

All entries will be pre-selected by a pre-selection team of TEDxStockholm which will judge upon the compliance with the rules of the competition.

The pictures selected by the pre-selection team will be forwarded to the Jury members anonymously with all metadata removed. The Jury selects the best 10 pictures and thereafter will use a scoring system to decide their order. The points given by the Jury members are summarized and the three photographs which receive the most points will become the winners of the contest. The rest of the Top 10 pictures (7 runner-ups) will be published on the social media channels of TEDxStockholm (Facebook and Instagram) with the name of the photographer together with the title and description of the picture (The Story) as one post per Story on both platforms. The posts will appear within one hour from each-other and anyone can vote for them on both channels. The votes then will be aggregated and the picture that gets the most votes will win the Social Hero prize.

Announcement, Notification and Publication of Winners

The winners will be announced during the event on the 9 May. TEDxStockholm will also publish the Top 10 photographs on their social media and website.

The winners will be invited to introduce their submitted pictures during the 9 May event, via video meeting (Zoom). In case they cannot attend, then they are welcome to record a presentation video of 90 seconds which we will play during the event. This is not a must, but an opportunity and professional coaches from TEDx Stockholm are available to support the winners with advice regarding their short presentation.

TEDxStockholm DOES NOT offer any accommodation or travel reimbursements.

Prizes

TEDxStockholm preserves the right to publish the available prizes no later than the day of the event on the 9 May.

Claim of ownership

Contestants must own all rights to the photographs submitted, and releases for the photographs submitted are the contestant’s responsibility. If a photograph submitted contains any material that belongs to a third party, the producers must obtain permission for the use of that material, so as to allow TEDxStockholm to fully exercise its rights hereunder without any obligation on the part of TEDxStockholm to make any payment to any party whatsoever. If TEDxStockholm has any doubt on the ownership of the photograph, TEDxStockholm reserves the right to eliminate the photograph from the contest.

Contestants must be able to supply a signed release from any person appearing in the photograph (or their legal representatives or guardians).

TEDxStockholm is not going to use the photographs for commercial use.
